Can I eat the cashews with vanilla and tonka during pregnancy?

Due to the coumarin contained in the tonka bean (in small quantities), we advise you not to consume cashews with vanilla and tonka during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, we are not experts in this field and would like to ask you to consult your doctor in any case.

What is so special about these cashews?

Our cashews are gently roasted and then coated with fine vanilla and tonka in a so-called coating kettle: Thus, you can expect a unique and unprecedented flavor combination of sweet and nutty in the 12 x 500 g format! In addition, the small seeds are a vegetable source of protein and fiber.

Is the tonka bean poisonous?

Tonka beans contain coumarin, which should only be consumed in small amounts. According to the European Food Safety Authority, the maximum daily amount that can be safely consumed per kilo of body weight is 0.1 mg. On average, 1-3% of a tonka bean consists of coumarin. Our cashews contain 0.1 g of tonka bean per 100 g and thus a maximum of 3 mg of coumarin. However, the coumarin content decreases even further when the bean is dried. Thus, the minimal coumarin contained absolutely does not speak against the consumption of our sweet cashews, as long as this is done in moderation.

What is the taste of tonka bean?

In terms of taste, the tonka bean is initially reminiscent of vanilla, however, it also brings a hint of caramel and bitter almond. You do not need much of the dried bean, as its flavor is incredibly intense even in small doses.

Our vanilla cashews with tonka contain only ingredients that naturally do not contain gluten. Nevertheless, depending on the growing region, unknowingly contamination with gluten-containing grains may occur during harvesting or processing. We therefore do not declare the cashews as gluten-free.

Can I make my own sweet cashew cream with the cashews?

You bet! If you want to keep it simple, all you need is a powerful blender, our vanilla tonka cashews and maybe a sip of water. Puree the cashews until you're happy with the consistency, and sweeten with your choice of sugar and some cinnamon. How do I store the vanilla cashews and how long will they keep?

It is best to store your cashews in a cool, dry place protected from sunlight. In the original sealed packaging, the minimum shelf life is 12 months.
