Black sesame is one of the oldest known oil plants in the world. Native to the subtropical regions, it was already cultivated more than 4000 years ago in India. Sesame is an annual, herbaceous plant which can grow up to 180 cm high. Characteristic of this plant are its leaves, which vary in shape and size. The lower leaves are ovate and pinnate, while the upper ones are broad, slender and lanceolate. The light flowers of the black sesame plant are a real eye-catcher. Four months after sowing, the leaves begin to turn yellow. This is the starting signal for the harvest of the small sesame seeds, which grow in capsule-shaped flowers. Black sesame enriches every dish with its aromatic spicy, slighty sour taste slightly sour taste and its intensive black colour. Tahini, tahini or sesame puree - what's the difference?

In a nutshell: There is none. Whether you say tahini or tahini, or use the more common German terms Sesammus or Sesame paste, is purely a matter of taste and entirely up to you.

Is there a substitute for tahini?

Alternatives for tahini are hard to find, because the taste is really unique. However, our nut mushes are very similar in consistency and can serve as a substitute in a pinch - feel free to try your hand!

How many calories have 100 g black tahini?

100 g of our black sesame paste comes to 629 kcal.

Is black tahini gluten-free?

Our black tahini consists of 100% black sesame seeds and therefore only ingredients that naturally do not contain gluten. However, it is possible that there may be unknowing contamination with gluten-containing grains during harvesting or processing, which is why we do not label the product as gluten-free.

Is sesame paste healthy?

We at KoRo do not like to divide products into "healthy" and "unhealthy". However, the nutritional values of tahini need not hide. Our sesame puree is a vegetable protein source and also brings a high fiber content.

Is black tahini vegan?

Yes, our black tahini is made from 100% organic sesame seeds and is therefore purely vegetable.

Can I make sesame puree myself?

Of course, to make tahini yourself is not so difficult. In principle, you only need one ingredient: sesame seeds. If you like it a little sweeter, you can add agave syr up. Toast the sesame seeds in a pan without oil and stir constantly until they are lightly browned. Then let it cool down a bit and put it (together with the agave syrup if you like) into a powerful blender. Now you need to be patient, as it may take a while for the grains to turn into a creamy paste. When you're happy with the consistency, the sesame puree is ready to be eaten. Does the black sesame paste taste bitter?

Opinions often differ on the perception of the taste of tahini as bitter or not bitter. Our black tahini can be described as very aromatic and slightly nutty and is perceived as slightly less bitter than the light tahini. But tastes are known to be different, so it's best to just try it and see for yourself!

Is this black tahini organic?

Yes, our tahini is 100% organic.

What is Tahini actually?

Tahini is a sesame paste originating from the Arab region. For our black tahini we use the best black sesame seeds in organic quality. In the production, the unhulled black sesame seeds are gently ground until a creamy paste is formed.

How do I store tahini and what is its shelf life?

The tahini is best stored in a cool and dry place. In the original sealed jar, the shelf life of our sesame paste is at least 16 months with proper storage.

Is black tahini also suitable for desserts?

Oh yes! We say only black sesame ice cream, Tahini brownies, Tahini cookies, Crunchy Tahini Granola - your creativity has no limits. If you don't want to use the ice cream m aker or the oven, we also offer sweet variants of the sesame paste in our store: tahini with coc oa and organic tahini with coconut, which you can use pure as a spread.

Can I eat sesame paste during pregnancy?

In general, the moderate consumption of tahini during pregnancy is safe. However, it is best to talk about this again with your doctor.

What can I use tahini for?

Tahini can be used in a variety of ways. In addition to the use for our all-time favorite - Hummus (surprise, surprise) - Sesammus is excellent as a dressing for bowls and salads. But also pure as a spread or as a dip for falafel, tahini is a real treat.
