A berry with many names: cassis, ribes, gooseberry, or simply currant, black currant reminds some of us of our childhood summers, when we would collect handfuls of it from wild plants, gladly filling our mouth with its peculiar sweet and sour taste, and thus fighting the heat. If you miss this feeling of summer and freedom, you are going to love our freeze-dried black currant, which you can now enjoy even when the season is over! Besides, thanks to the freeze-drying process, the taste of our berries is way more concentrated than that of their fresh counterparts – and their texture crunchier! Full of love Black currant is native of central Europe, where it grows very easily, and is packed with vitamins and nutrients. Our black ribes is therefore a great an

100 g of freeze-dried black currants contain about 275 kcal and 32.6 g of carbohydrates. You can also find all the exact nutritional values of the currants next to the product description and on the package.
In freeze-drying, the principle of sublimation removes almost all the water from the food. In this process, the fruit is deep-frozen and placed in a vacuum chamber. The vacuum created there causes the water to change directly from ice to steam. This gives the fruit its crunchy texture, an even more aromatic taste and a long shelf life. The vitamin-preserving process preserves the nutrients.
You may first think of currants as black or red little berries growing on rampant bushes. In fact, currants are common in three colors: Namely, one color variety of red currants comes in white. In addition, there are other varieties of pink and golden yellow currants, but you rarely see them. Regardless of their color, the currants are similar in taste and are characterized by their sour aroma. However, red currants are said to have a slightly sweeter taste and white currants a wine-like aroma.
Before you order a pound of freeze-dried black currants, you'll want to know more about the shelf life of the fruit. When stored in a cool, dry place, your bulk pack of currants will keep for 1.5 years. By the way, our Ball Mason Jars are perfect for storing freeze-dried berries. The airtight seal keeps the fruit crisp for a long time and looks decorative when packed in the jar.

Abgepackt in Großpackungen
Abgepackt in Großpackungen

Also delicious with Bircher muesli prepared in the evening!

I make my own jam, always fresh. From frozen strawberries and raspberries. Add a handful of freeze-dried blackcurrants and the jam gels better (always use 1+1 gelling sugar because it contains no preservatives) and has a stronger taste and color.
