A hairy situation?! Don't worry, we're not talking about Hagrid or Hobbit feet. We are talking about the green kiwi. Its skin could hardly be any hairier - and that's a good thing. The hair protects the fruit from losing too much water through evaporation. Whether with or without the skin, we cannot protect our dried kiwis from other hungry humans. Fruity and with a sour note, the dried slices will win over any snack monster in no time. Buy dried kiwi in 500 g bags now!

The origin of the kiwi

You probably think of New Zealand when you think of the green fruit, don't you? But the kiwi actually originated in China, which is why the hairy fruit is also known as the "Chinese gooseberry". Around 1904, the kiwi was brought to New Zealand and from there it finally conquered Europe. In Germany, we were a little slower and only discovered the green miracle in the 1970s. At that time, annual consumption suddenly rose from 900,000 to a grandiose 85 million kiwis! Now that's something!

Why is the kiwi called kiwi?

Not everyone thinks of fruit when they hear the word "kiwi". It is also the name of a cute bird native to New Zealand, which has been named the country's national bird. The fruit and the bird are also visually similar with their furry appearance. But why is the kiwi fruit called kiwi? When it first came to New Zealand, it was not sold very well under the name "Chinese gooseberry". A clever little brain then came up with the idea of simply calling the fruit "Kiwiberry", which later became "Kiwifruit".

I have already ordered some dried fruit from Koro. The kiwi is not in the top 3 but definitely in the top third. I didn't expect them to be so soft, so I was even more surprised that they weren't tough. Rather slightly pliable / crushable Even my husband likes them Let's see if I will just snack on them or if they will end up in one or the other porridge Taste, little to no sourness (I would have expected) at least with the 3 pieces I have tried now, light kiwi finish, good!

Sweet and sour at the same time!

It may not look the best, but it tastes great! The combination of the sweetness of a dried fruit with the natural acidity of the kiwi: a dream.
