Extra virgin olive oil – the wonderful powers of the olive tree

Our high-quality olive oil is made from Kolovi olives, which are harvested on Lesbos at an altitude of 600 metres. After all, the little stone fruit wants to be treated with respect! For several thousand years, the olive tree has been almost revered for its colours, grace and sense of time. After all, an olive tree needs about 7 years to bear its first fruit; and its yield is at its peak when it is already 20 years old! The little green fruits that the tree gives us are then cold pressed into virgin olive oil - resulting in an ode to flavour. What can I use the olive oil for?

You can use our extra virgin olive oil especially well for cold things like dressings, dips or salads, but the oil can also be used well in hot dishes. It also fits in cakes, woks, vegetable side dishes, on bread, ... To almost everything!

Can I heat olive oil?

Have you, just like us, long been under the general misconception that you should not fry with olive oil? You thought wrong! Our extra virgin olive oil is also suitable for this purpose. Due to the gentle production, you can use it for frying, cooking or baking without any problems. Just make sure not to exceed the respective smoke point. For extra virgin olive oil, this is between 160°C and 190°C.

Is the olive oil vegan?

Yes, our extra virgin olive oil is vegan by nature. It consists solely of virgin, cold-pressed olives.

What is special about KoRo virgin olive oil?

From which olives is your olive oil made?

Our extra virgin olive oil is made from Kolovi olives from the Greek island of Lesvos. This variety of olives grows exclusively there, in the mountains and captivates with its full-bodied aroma. It is a real insider tip and a rarity among connoisseurs. Did you know that there are over 1600 varieties of olives and over 1000 in the Mediterranean alone? Crazy, isn't it? And 90% of all olives worldwide are pressed into oil. And rightly so!

What does extra-virgin mean for olive oil?

A prerequisite for extra virgin olive oil is that the olives must be cold pressed. In addition, they must be fresh during the process, and only mechanical processes may be used, without the use of chemicals! This olive oil corresponds to the highest quality class of the EU and is therefore above refined and virgin olive oil.

How should the olive oil be stored?

Please store the olive oil in a cool, dry and dark place. This way you will prevent it from changing in terms of aroma, smell or taste. That's why the olive oil is bottled in a dark bottle: to protect it in the best possible way. If you store the oil properly, the minimum unopened shelf life is 18 months.
