Garlic Ginger Tofu

Delicious spiced tofu with fresh ginger flavor!

Garlic Ginger Tofu


  • Tofu: 350 g
  • Starch: 2 tbsp
  • Soy sauce: 2 tbsp.
  • Dark sweet soy sauce or maple syrup: 1.5 tbsp.
  • Rice vinegar or light wine vinegar: 1 tsp.
  • Hot chili sauce: 2 tsp.
  • Water: 50 ml
  • Garlic cloves: 3 pieces
  • Ginger: 1 piece
  • Spring onion: 1 piece
  • Sesame seeds: 1 tsp


Step 1

Cut the tofu in half, squeeze with a kitchen towel and pluck into bite-sized pieces. Mix 1 tablespoon of starch with the tofu. Place on a baking tray and bake at 190C for about 20-30 minutes. It should already be a little crispy.

Step 2

For the sauce: mix 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, 1 tbsp vinegar and 1 tsp starch. Chop garlic and ginger. Cut the spring onion into slices. Fry garlic, ginger and spring onion with oil. Add the sauce and sauté until it becomes a thick sauce. Now add the water. Let it simmer a little more. It should not be too liquid, so that it adheres nicely to the tofu.

Step 3

Now add the tofu and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top. Mix well and serve with rice. Steamed carrots go perfectly with this.
