Is black tahini gluten-free?

Our black tahini consists of 100% black sesame seeds and therefore only ingredients that naturally do not contain gluten. However, it is possible that there may be unknowing contamination with gluten-containing grains during harvesting or processing, which is why we do not label the product as gluten-free.

Can I make sesame puree myself?

Of course, to make tahini yourself is not so difficult. In principle, you only need one ingredient: sesame seeds. If you like it a little sweeter, you can add agave syr up. Toast the sesame seeds in a pan without oil and stir constantly until they are lightly browned. Then let it cool down a bit and put it (together with the agave syrup if you like) into a powerful blender. Now you need to be patient, as it may take a while for the grains to turn into a creamy paste. When you're happy with the consistency, the sesame puree is ready to be eaten. Does the black sesame paste taste bitter?

Opinions often differ on the perception of the taste of tahini as bitter or not bitter. Our black tahini can be described as very aromatic and slightly nutty and is perceived as slightly less bitter than the light tahini. But tastes are known to be different, so it's best to just try it and see for yourself!

How do I store tahini and what is its shelf life?

The tahini is best stored in a cool and dry place. In the original sealed jar, the shelf life of our sesame paste is at least 16 months with proper storage.

Is there a substitute for tahini?

Alternatives for tahini are hard to find, because the taste is really unique. However, our nut mushes are very similar in consistency and can serve as a substitute in a pinch - feel free to try your hand!

What can I use tahini for?

Tahini can be used in a variety of ways. In addition to the use for our all-time favorite - Hummus (surprise, surprise) - Sesammus is excellent as a dressing for bowls and salads. But also pure as a spread or as a dip for falafel, tahini is a real treat.
