What is wasabi anyway? Wasabi is a member of the cruciferous family and comes originally from Japan, and is therefore also known with the name Japanese horseradish, even though all it has in common with horseradish is the family. Under the outer green wasabi coating, tasty peanuts are hidden, as you've probably guessed by the product's name. The peanut plant is a herb that grows to a height of about 40 -70 cm. Pretty interesting, isn't it? Nuss, die keine Nuss ist

Erdnüsse sind Deine liebsten Nüsse? Dann wirst Du enttäuscht sein zu hören: Die Erdnuss ist gar keine Nuss! In Wirklichkeit gehört sie zu den Hülsenfrüchten und ihr Name führt uns in die Irre. Aber zur Beruhigung: Wenigstens der erste Teil stimmt. Erdnüsse reifen tatsächlich in der Erde!

Herkunft und Verarbeitung in Asien

Sie kommen also aus der Erde… aber woher genau? Ursprünglich stammt die Erdnuss aus Südamerika. Die heutzutage größten Anbauflächen befinden sich allerdings in China, wo auch unsere Erdnüsse zu Hause sind. Dort bekommen sie auch ihren Wasabi-Kick verliehen.

Zieh Dich warm an…

denn jetzt geht’s ans Ummanteln. In einer rotierenden Beschichtungsmaschine werden die Erdnüsse mit Mehl gemischt. Durch die konstante Geschwindigkeit bleibt es gleichmäßig an der Oberfläche der Erdnüsse haften. Klingt noch nicht so lecker? No worries: Anschließend werden die beschichteten Erdnüsse geröstet. Schon besser, oder?

Jetzt wird’s feurig

Im nächsten Schritt kommt die Wasabikrönung! Währenddessen werden die Erdnüsse auch hier kontinuierlich rotiert, damit jede Stelle etwas von der intensiven Wasabi-Schärfe abbekommt. Für extra Chrunch und Aroma werden die gewürzten Erdnüsse ein weiteres Mal geröstet.

Cool Down

Anschließend müssen die heißen Feger wieder abkühlen, verpackt werden und ab ins KoRo-Lager. Dann fehlt nur noch ein Schritt: Die Reise in Deinen Warenkorb!
